It must be no coincidence that the most tense elections in Ghana and the USA are being held within the same period.
Had the Ghanaian parliament passed the bill, both elections would have taken place on November 7th 2016. However, the Ghanaian election would take place on December 7th whereas the US election take place on November 7th.
Today, the YEN election teams brings you some striking similarities between Hillary Clinton, a presidential candidate in the US, and John Mahama;
1. On Immigration and Refugees
Hillary Clinton and John Mahama share mostly similar views on immigrations and refugee issues.Though Mahama has not openly declared his support to accept refugees into Ghana. “First, we rely on partners in Muslim countries to fight terrorists. (The immigration ban) would make it harder,” Clinton said.
2. On Abortions
Again, Hillary Clinton and John Mahama seem to have the same convictions about aborthions in general. In the words of Hillary, "Politicians have no business interfering with women's personal health decisions."
John Mahama like Hillary Clinton, is running for his term of office based on a string of experiences. Whereas Hillary has been Sec. Gen. of the USA, Mahama has several years of experience as president and vice-president of Ghana. Whether this experience speaks would work well for both candidates in their respective elections is still to be determined.
Both Hillary and Mahama share the same policy ideas when it comes to socioeconomic infrastructure. The catch here is, whereas Clinton is now promising to invest more money into the area, Mahama has claimed that he has already done what Hillary plans to do for Ghana.
