The website of the Electoral commission of Ghana has been taken down ahead of the December polls, while causing speculation as to whether the site has been tampered with by cyber hackers.
For over two weeks, visitors to the website domain www.ec.gov.gh are met with a blank page, and there has been no indication from the commission on whether it is a technical difficulty that will be resolved.
The deputy Head of Communications and Public Affairs for the commission, Yusif Ayuba confirmed the site's breakdown and assured that their technical team were working to resolve the challenges.
"We are experiencing some technical challenges and we are working very hard to rectify it and as soon as we do, the website will be up and doing,” he said, although he failed to mention when the problem would be solved.
The new EC website was launched earlier this year as part of the commission's five-year plan, and it serves as the database of information covering elections and electoral details from 1992 to 2012.
