George Andah, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Awutu Senya West in the Central Region, is facing mounting criticism after he attacked Hannah Tetteh, his National Democratic Congress (NDC) rival for the seat.
Speaking to voters in the constituency, Mr Andah said his wife was always by his side each time he campaigned in the area, but Hannah had never brought her husband.
“When I come, I bring my wife. Go and tell Hannah that when she is coming, she should bring her husband. Tell Hannah to show her husband to you,” he said.
"Me, my wife is here," Mr Andah added as he introduced his wife, Asantewa, to the constituents.
A video of the interaction has gone viral on social media, provoking condemnation for Mr Andah.
Several social media users, especially women, have criticised him for engaging in what they called politics of insults.
