The political season is always rife with accusation from political parties about each other.
Over the years, it was been the norm to see several accusations from opposition parties levelled against the incumbent government. However, the 2016 general election buildup has been full of accusations across board, in equal measure from the incumbent the opposition and the opposition about the incumbent. And in an inflamed period of heightened election propaganda, these allegations are not always easy to prove or disprove as they are not backed with open facts.
YEN.com.gh's elections desk presents some of the allegations the New Patriotic Party and leadership Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia have made about the National Democratic Party, John Dramani Mahama and/or Kwesi Amissah Arthur.
1. Nana Addo accused Mahama of spending $10 million on presidential diaries
Flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo has hinted that government under president Mahama, has in total spent a whopping amount of $10 million dollars on the printing of presidential diaries.
2. NPP accused Mahama of using public projects to buy votes
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is alleged that the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) was buying votes in the run-up to the December elections, and urged the party to desist from the practice.
3. Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia accused Mahama of rolling back progress
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) vice-presidential candidate for the 2016 election, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, accused the John Dramani Mahama-led government of rolling back the progress made under the eight-year administration of former President Kufuor.
4. NPP MP accused Mahama of rushing through loans worth US$900m
The NPP Member of Parliament for the New Juaben South constituency, Dr Mark Assibey-Yeboah, accused President Mahama of single-handedly approving loan agreements, without recourse to his cabinet, and glutting parliament with same.
5. Akufo Addo accused Mahama of plagiarising his ideas
He accused President John Mahama of plagiarising his ideas. Specifically, Nana Akufo Addo said he will not reveal his ideas on how to resurrect the ailing National Health Insurance Scheme, after claiming president Mahama plagiarized his ideas on SADA and the free SHS policy.
6. NPP accused Mahama of falsehood, tribal politics
The New Patriotic Party accused John Mahama of peddling falsehood and engaging in tribal politics. The party cited some comments made by the president during a visit to the Volta Region as reason for their accusation. The president had told the chiefs and people of the Volta Region that every development project executed in the region was done by the National Democratic Congress and not the New Patriotic Party.
7. NPP accuse NDC of 'buying' crowds in Amenfi East for Mahama
The opposition party in the Amenfi East Constituency in the Western region accused the NDC in the same constituency of paying GHC50 each to people to meet president John Mahama at Wasa Akropong.
