Police in Reyes, northern Bolivia, arrested a man who allegedly raped and murdered a 4-year-old girl, but locals refused to wait for his trial and publicly lynched and hanged him.
The shocking moment was recorded on video and shows how despite the efforts, police officers were desperately outnumbered and failed to stop the public lynching.
The disturbing footage also shows how people forcing their way into the man’s jail cell before beating him, dragging him through the streets and hanging him from a tree.
Police said that the dead bodies of the little girl and the lynching victim were moved to Palos Blancos, a city near La Paz, Bolivian Capital.
According to police records the toddler was not a local, she was visiting with her parents for her grandmother’s funeral.
The department director of the Special Force for Crime Fighting said that nobody has yet been arrested for the lynching.
However police started the investigation and they are using social media videos of the incident to deal with the case.
