With about 20 days for Ghana to go to the polls, YEN.com.gh brings you the various constituencies to look out for as the race gets hotter and hotter.
This year’s election may be the most competitive election we have ever had as everyone is trying their very best to go to parliament:
Here are 5 constituencies to watch out for this year:
Effutu: Eric Don Arthur vs. Alexander Afenyo-Markin
The race to the Effutu seat will be one to keep a close eye on as media mogul Eric Don Arthur tries to unseat the very outspoken incumbent Alexander Afenyo Markin. The race has not been a very clean one with each candidate accusing the other of various allegations including gayism. Who will get the nod to represent Effutu in 2017?
Tema East: Kempes Ofosuware vs. Titus Glover
4 years ago the Tema East election went down in history as one of the closest election ever witnessed in Ghana with Kempes losing to Titus Glover by only 3 votes (that will be painful). The two nemesis face off again this year and we are waiting to see if Kempes will sail through this year.
Weija Gbawe: Obuobia Darko Opoku vs. Tina Mensah
Weija Gbawe is definitely one to watch this year. It is traditionally a stronghold of the opposition NPP but due to the many social interventions done by the NDC’s Obuobia Darko many pollster seem to tip her to overcome the NPP’s 12 year hold on that constituencies but we are waiting to see.
Klottey-Korle: Zanetor vs. Phillip Addison vs. Nii Noi Nortey
The NDC’s Zanetor Agyemang Rawlings seems to have it easy in the constituency due to in fighting in the opposition which led to Nii Noi who was the previous parliamentary candidate for the NPP to go independent. Will the daughter of the former president make it to parliament? Let’s wait and see.
Awutu Senya West: Hannah Tetteh vs. George Andah
Hannah Tetteh the incumbent MP for Awutu Senya West seems to have met her match this year as she faces former MTN head George Andah. The race has been marred with Hannah’s team claiming George is irresponsible and George claiming you must have a husband before you can enter parliament. Who will win this race?
