NDC suspends campaign in Kumasi

The incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) is suspending all campaign activities in the Ashanti region following the death of the queen mother of the Ashanti kingdom, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II.

Chief of staff, Julius Debrah, made the announcement when a government delegation was sent to the Manyia palace to console the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu. Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II died on Tuesday November 16.She reigned for 39 years and saw the days of Otumfuo Opoku Ware II, who reigned from 1970 to 1999.

Nana Afia Kobi was enstooled in 1977 as the 13th queen mother of the Asante Kingdom since 1695 after the late Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko II who reigned from 1945 to 1977.

She was aged 109.
