One of Ghana’s star and veteran journalist, Kwami Sefa Kayi has taken on three institutions involved Ghana’s upcoming elections for ‘not playing their part’ effectively.
According to the “Chairman General,” as he is popularly called, the decision by the Electoral Commission to charge journalists an accreditation fee for coverage of the 2016 elections was “shameful”.
He was also ver critical of the Ghana Police Service, especially the Nima division. Sefa Kayi opined that he doubted the readiness of the police as well. “ … [You say you are going to clamp down on troublemakers]. It happened next door, you did nothing,” referring to the clash between the supporters of the NDC and NPP right at the nose of the Nima Police.
“I think it is shameful that you charge the media to cover the elections…I don’t think it is a very good thing you have done. I don’t think it is a smart thing to do. What is 10 cedis to you [EC] from a journalist?...I am not very happy as a media person.”
The National Commission on Civic Education was not spared in Sefa Kayi’s critical rant.
“[The NCCE] you don’t have money. You complain to us in private but you are here [talking as if you do]… What is this hypocrisy and dishonesty that we are all pushing?”
