Police in the Greater Accra Region on Saturday arrested Peter Boamah Otokunor for leading soldiers to attack sand winners on a land at Amasaman.
According to a report by the Today newspaper, the National Democratic Congress official transported the soldiers in four NDC-branded SUVs to the land which he claimed to be his own.
The report said the soldiers and some macho men beat up the sand winners who were working on the land, which they said was given to them by the paramount chief of Pampasu Traditional Area, Nana Aponohene Akapeh.
The soldiers reportedly fired warning shots, seized the keys to eight tipper trucks belonging to the sand winners and deflated tyres of some of the machines at the site.
The victims are said to have reported their ordeal to the Amasaman police who arrested Otokunor and detained him for six hours, after which he was granted bail.
