Henry Quartey, the NPP Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso Central constituency has expressed fear for his life, as death threats have allegedly been made against him.
Speaking to the Election Security Task Force for the Nima area after their previous visits to the NDC and PNC to hear concerns about the upcoming elections, Mr Henry Quartey said he had gathered intelligence that his life was in danger.
"They are looking for channels to attack me seriously before the elections. We don’t want a JB situation here . I have been asked to send a letter to the regional command which I have done… I will need police protection in my home and in my official duties," he said.
However the parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso Central for the NDC, Mr William Affum Ani-Agyei has reacted to the allegations made by Mr Quartey, stating that the supposed death threats made against him are possibly emerging from within the NPP.
Speaking on the matter, William Affum Ani-Agyei said, "If honourable Henry Quartey claims he is receiving threats on his life, fine, that could be true. But that will not necessarily come from the NDC. That is why he is unable to say that the threats are coming from the NDC. I think he hasn’t handled the NPPs very well."
Nonetheless, the Nima Divisional Police Commander has assured both sides that the matter will be investigated, stating that the allegations will be taken to the regional commander who would invite both sides and hear their story.
