- A Russian male-to-female transgender was arrested and placed in a male detention facility
- People were worried that the transgender would be mistreated in the male facility because he had been living as a woman for many years already
- His lawyer stated that because he was still male in his documents everything is legal, however he should be placed in a separate cell
About a week ago it was reported that Russian transgender Alexey Matyunin, who now calls himself Albina was arrested and placed into a male detention facility.
The reason is that by the time Alexey was arrested he underwent multiple sex change surgeries but his passport still indicated that he was a male.
People were shocked by the fact that Alexey (Albina) Matyunin was being held in a male detention facility. Because the transgender has looked like a woman for many years people are worried about his health and wellbeing.
Russian Lawyer Sergey Kulakov stated that it all depends what kind of surgery Alexey overwent.
He stated: “It is important to understand if he underwent the male to female sex change surgery. There are female and male sexual characteristics and if Alexey still has his male parts than being held in a male detention facility is lawful. But the situation is a little more complicated so the client is forced to ask for a separate holding cell.”
Alexey Matyunin stole about $30 of items from a store for which he received two years of probation. However in 2016 he violated the conditions and was forced to be arrested.
But by then Alexey was already living in Moscow as Albina Matyunina. The male-to-female didn’t change the status in his passport and still remains a man legally and for that reason he was placed in a male detention facility.
