Ghanaian highlife legend, Paapa Yankson did the unthinkable last weekend when he flouted hospital regulations and left his hospital bed to mount the stage at the Polo Grounds for the first edition of the ‘Bottles & Bands’ festival.
“I had to leave the hospital and come here to perform for you, and it’s all because of the love I have for you,” the wheelchair-bound legend told the crowd.
Little did he know that his action was about to pay off!
His service above self gesture did not go unnoticed as several corporate firms and individuals presented a total amount of Ghc50, 000 to aid the veteran musician take care of his medical bills and related expenses.
ANFD International, Ultimate Car Port, UniBank and Capital Express were some of the companies who donated to the singer.
Although wheelchair bound, 72-year-old Paapa Yankson still enjoys singing and will perform at any possible chance he get. On this occasion, he skillfully serenaded the crowd to some of his hit songs.

‘Bottles and Bands 2016’, which is an EIB initiative, was held at the Accra Polo Grounds November 19 and saw stellar performances from Kojo Antwi, EL, Akoo Nana and Efya.
