As with tradition with most ethnic groups in Ghana, when a loved one dies, there is an occasion that serves as form of reflection and celebration their life lived a week after their death. And this was the same for the Asantehemaa of the Ashanti Kingdom whose one week celebration took place on Thursday.
While the event was supposed to be one of solemn reflection and acknowledgement of her full life lived, the loudness of the current political period tried to mar it in every way possible.
After the Ootumfuor's arrival to the celebration grounds, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party arrived, to the chanting cheers of his followers. President Mahama then arrived just shortly and then there was case of hooting and chanting between supporters of the NDC and the NPP.
The chanting contest went on for over an hour, but the event progressed with the drumming and display of the rich Ashanti culture, it was only a small hiccup in the celebration.
