The office of the electoral commission (EC) in the Western region has confirmed that six ballot boxes meant for the December 7 polls have gone missing.
The Western regional secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Charles Cromwell Bissue, revealed in an interview with CitiFM that “on 16th of November 2016, when the ballot boxes were being transported to the various constituencies in the region, in between Tarkwa, six of the boxes went missing. It was reported to the Tarkwa Police; but later had to be reported to the Kwesimintsim Police Command yesterday [Friday]. We got wind of it and we were told the police have started investigations it.”
This development has raised allegations of the EC's attempt to rig the general elections in favour of the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Meanwhile, the EC has began investigations into the development as the NPP has also revealed plans to call an emergency constituency meeting over the matter.
