Chairman of National Peace Council and Chief Togbe Afede XIV speak against violence at meeting between EC and presidential candidates

Speaking at a high powered meeting organized by the Commonwealth Observer Mission led by former South African president, Thabo Mbeki, the President of the National House of Chiefs, Togbe Afede XIV expressed that he hoped this would be the last time peace pledges would be necessary.

"Let this peace pledges be the last," stated Chief Togbe Afede in his address highlighting how the presidential office is one that is one of service to the people. He stated that if disruptive emotions characterize a presidential election, then the actors have a selfish desire to use the position for their own personal advancement.
