After the ending of the special voting at Bolgatanga on Thursday, some ardent NPP supporters sacrificed their sleep time to ensure that the boxes were safely sealed and protected.
The supporters revealed that the room which housed the ballot boxes for Bolga Central, have some security defects which could "compromise the integrity of the cast ballots" - hence the need for them to keep vigil over them.
“They kept the ballot boxes inside a room that the police described as a safe room but we noticed that the window is just opened completely. The Police and the Electoral officials agreed with us that there is a security flaw and that it should be addressed. So we are waiting here; we are waiting to see how the Electoral Commission and the Police are going to address the issue,” the party’s regional director of communications, Ahmed Bediako, revealed.
The special voting exercise ended on Thursday with the electoral commission (EC) been faced with harsh criticism over the widespread disappearance of names from the Voters register.
The EC, following an emergency IPAC meeting with political parties, agreed to extend the Special voting to Sunday, December 4.
