With 80% of polling stations counted, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, has increased his lead to 4,676,989, representing 54.91 percent, according to the latest provisional results.
President John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has 3,694,724 votes, representing 43.38 percent.
This means Akufo-Addo is now leading by almost one million votes.
Other presidential candidates have 145,447 votes, representing 1.71 percent.
The NPP has already called on President Mahama to concede defeat to Akufo-Addo.
According to the party, Mahama has no way of matching the figures Akufo-Addo has garnered.
In a strong rebuttal, however, the NDC condemned the NPP’s conduct and insisted that President had a comfortable lead in the election.
We will bring you more election updates as they come in.
