Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo presidential candidate of the largest opposition candidate, New Patriotic Party (NPP), is gaining an edge over incumbent president and National Democratic Congress presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama.

Preliminary results from some collation centers suggest that John Mahama has 45% of votes cast as opposed to Nana Akufo-Addo's reported 52%.

This is Akufo-Addo's third attempt at presidency since he first contested in 2008 but lost to the late John Atta Mills.

He again contested in the 2012 national elections against the NDC candidate, the late Mills’ successor as President, John Mahama, and lost.

The Electoral Commission has however condemned all preliminary results and insisted that they had not released any result.

The independent body has since assured that they would soon start releasing certified results.
