Akufo-Addo projected as winner of the 2016 presidential election

The Multimedia group, which includes Joy FM, has projected Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party as the winner of the 2016 election.

The media house said after collating the election results from 206 constituencies across the country, it was impossible for John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to meet the number of votes Akufo-Addo has garnered.

If the data holds true, it will mean that Akufo-Addo has won the presidency on his third attempt and is now the president-elect of Ghana.

Earlier, the NPP released data which showed that with results from 28,023 (95.82%) polling stations across the country collated, Akufo-Addo was leading in the presidential election by 5,513,357 votes, representing 53.58%.

Mahama had 4,591,975, representing, representing 44.62% of the votes.

That, according to the party, means that Akufo-Addo has a lead of 921,382 that Mahama cannot surmount.

Ghanaians are still wating for the Electoral Commission (EC) to declare the results.
