The presidential candidate of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom has issued a word of warning to the chair of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, the independent body that oversees elections in Ghana.
According to Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, Charlotte Osei must make sure that the results she declares from the 2016 election "have integrity and must be based on the real votes cast by the people.”
In a recent post on Facebook, Nduom called on the commission to preserve Ghana’s peace by seeing to it that “the will of the people must prevail”.
His word of caution come right after he conceded defeat to the New Patriotic Party's Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. He said in a Facebook post early Thursday morning “the wind of change has blown in [Nana Addo’s] favor.”
The sentiments of the PPP flagbearers are also shared by some Ghanaians and even the NPP, who have publicly called out the EC for the "suspicious delay" in broadcasting the final results.
The EC, on the other hand, has assured that they will not and cannot manipulate the polling results as they are mandated by law to declare what is true and reflective of the votes casted.
