Looking forlorn and sounding subdued, President on Friday night expressed gratitude to Ghanaians for participating in the 2016 election and helping elect a new leader for the country.
Delivering his concession speech moments after the Electoral Commisison declared Nana Akufo-Addo the president-elect, Mahama said he would respect the will of the people and ensure a smooth transition of power.
He said although the results did not meet his expectation, Ghana was the winner in the election.
He said due to his love for Ghana and his commitment to the peace and and stability of the country, he had called Akufo-Addo and conceded defeat despite what he said were irregularities in the election results.
Mahama congratulated Akufo-Addo and pledged to offer his advice and support anytime the president-elect needed it.
He also thanked members of the NDC and officials in his administration for their support in the last four years.
