Multiple casualties in Accra-Cape Coast highway head-on collision

A highway collision between a Yutong bus and a Mercedes Sprinter minibus resulted in multiple casualties on Sunday, December 11th.

The accident occurred at the Essarkyir junction in the Ekumfi District.and resulted in 15 fatalities, with many more sustaining various degrees of injuries. According to reports all 15 fatalities were passengers on the Sprinter, with registration number AS 5622-1, traveling from Accra to Obuasi when it made the collision with the Yutong Bus, registered GN 3973-09, going the other way.

The wounded were taken to Apam hospital in the Gomoa West district to receive treatment, while all fatalities have been transported to Saltpond Government Hospital morgue.

Though the cause of the accident is yet unknown, local police have launched an investigation in an attempt to make sense of the fatal collision, although further report state that both vehicles were traveling at a high rate of speed.
