The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiko, has accused the outgoing President, H.E. John Mahama, of surrounding himself with people who were economic with the truth and never furnished him with ideas that could significantly change the country's economy for the better.

According to the NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, otherwise known as Chairman Wontumi, the outgoing president's ignorance of the hardships suffered by the average Ghanaian on a daily basis was apparent when one considers the infrastructure he - President Mahama - built.
Chairman Wontumi partially attributed this ignorance, again, to the presidents entourage and advisers, saying that they focused all their attention on building infrastructure with the sole aim of “inflating contract figures to satisfy their selfish needs”.

"Take a look at when he decided to renovate the Kotokuraba market. It wasn’t needed and a lost priority. He could have used the money to build a market up north for his own people to get money.”
Chairman Wontumi also commented on why the National Democratic Congress had a weak performance in the Ashanti Region.
“After insulting Ashantis and calling us ingrates, you don’t expect us to welcome you with open arms and vote for you and your party during an election,” said the NPP regional chairman.
