In the wake of yesterday's gas explosion at the Louis Gas filling station fire trucks - aka fire tenders - found fire hydrants empty, hydrants used to refill the very fire trucks that would continue the fight against the fire.
Following this revelation, Mr. Stanely Marty, Head of Corporate Communications at the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), publicly pointed out that the La Trade Fair premises had been disconnected from the water grid for over a year now. This being due to an accrued debt owed to the GWCL, by the Ghana Trade Fair Company.
“[the disconnection] been for more than a year because they haven’t paid their bills. They have defaulted in payments for a very long time so we disconnected them.”

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show, Mr. Marty, pointed out that the Fire Service should have been well informed of the water supply situation, especially since Trade Fair even has a borehole now, instead of paying to use water supplied by the state owned company.
“Instead of them paying their bills so that we would have them reconnected, they sunk a borehole in the Trade Fair. Now that the Trade Fair is using a borehole, is the fire service not aware that the borehole is not enough to combat fire anytime there is a fire outbreak?”
