It is difficult when we know that a child is sick and his life in danger. If seeing someone suffer and die is painful, it is even more so when that someone is just beginning their life.
The story of Bradley Lowery, a 5 year old boy, is one of a boy who fights against death every day. He has a very rare type of cancer and recently doctors notified the family that his cancer had spread. The family will have to decide if they want to try a new method of fighting the tumor or to give up on the treatment. The chances of finding a cure are close to zero.
Bradley loves football and is a Sunderland fan. So they decided to take him to Sunderland’s Premier League match against Chelsea. The boy was the guest of honor and for a moment he stole the show. His dream was to share the field with his team and score a goal. So they let him take a penalty.
While Bradley prepared to take the penalty, the crowd stood as one and began to applaud. They continued the applause for several minutes.
People have shown solidarity with Bradley and promoted a Twitter campaign for England to consider his the “goal of the week”.
It will surely win. Meanwhile, at least this little boy has achieved a very big dream.
