Mahama was brutally beaten by the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s Nana Akufo-Addo in the just-ended presidential election, losing by over one million votes.
Analysts have described Mahama’s decisive defeat as a spectacular repudiation of his policies in the last four years, but the NDC appears to still see the outgoing president as their best bet to recapture power in 2016.
The editor-in-chief of the New Crusading Guide, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, has also spoken out in favour of a Mahama candidacy in 2020.
“John [Mahama] is very young and I think he will be the NDC’s surest bet in 2020. If he decides to enter the fray, there wouldn’t be anyone to stop him.
“Seriously, he will make huge impact if he decides to contest again so the NDC should consider that,” he said.
