Supporters of President John Mahama could not keep their eyes dry today as the president officially opened the Eastern University.

They wailed uncontrollably upon seeing the first gentleman in Somanya, where the university is located.
The governing National Democratic Congress lost emphatically in this year’s presidential and parliamentary elections. The results meant that John Mahama is the first president to be voted out of office after serving just one four year term.

The Eastern University was one of the president’s main campaign promises in his electoral success in 2012 and was hoping that his many infrastructural achievements would win Ghanaians over instead of the economy which was grinned to a halt under his administration.
President-elect Nana Akufo-Addo takes over from John Mahama in the first week of January 2017.
