Until death parts us: The couple died holding hands weeks before their 64th anniversary

Trent Winstead and Dolores Winstead carried their love through their lives till the last days. Several weeks earlier they died together, side by side hours apart.

This is real “The Notebook” story.

They met in the early 1950s and fell in love. They corresponded through love letters while Trent was serving in the Korean war. And when his feet touched the ground in America he proposed to Dolores. They had been together for 64 years. The couple had 2 children, 3 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. Dolores and Trent were said to be polar opposites.

But they loved each other and that was the only important thing.

At the age of 88, Trent got in a hospital because of kidneys failure. Dialysis treatment had worsened his condition so he was transferred to an intensive care. Soon, Dolores, who’s health was fine, started to vomit and having a headache. She was hospitalized with brain hemorrhage.

The couple was placed in the same room, where they spent their last moments holding hands. Dolores passed away at 9:10 pm on December 9. Trent blew a kiss to his wife when was told the news and died two hours later.

Sheryl Winstead, their daughter said:

"Because she was gone, he just could not handle it. We just watched him die. Literally, he died of a broken heart."
