Life is completely unpredictable. One day we can be happily celebrating, then the next we can feel terrible suffering. We don’t know what tomorrow will bring. That what makes it so special, and is why we should treasure every moment and be prepared for what tomorrow might bring.
That’s how life was for Karrie-Ann Hoppe, who in a period of a couple of weeks, found out she was suffering from cancer and that she was pregnant.
First they gave her the terrible news of the presence of cancer, something nobody likes to hear, but which she took as it came. She prepared for the necessary analysis and surgeries, but that’s when they gave her the second piece of news: she was pregnant with her second son.
Of course, they told Karrie-Ann that being pregnant with this diagnosis was far from ideal, but it was too late, Karrie-Ann was already 3 months pregnant. And with the little one on the way, the best treatment for the cancer was the surgery and chemotherapy. In this case, interrupting the pregnancy wasn’t the best option.
Fortunately, everything went well. After weeks of treatment, Karrie-Ann was free of cancer, but the baby wasn’t out of danger yet. Karrie-Ann’s body was exhausted after stopping chemotherapy treatment at 27 weeks into her pregnancy, but the baby had stopped moving. The only option was to perform a cesarean and hope for the best.
After the operation, Karrie-Ann returned home with her little boy in her arms. Kaiden was welcomed by the family with all the love in the world, and so too was Karrie-Ann. Her family never turned their back on her, they loved her more than ever before and they supported her in every possible way. Because of that love, she decided not to hide the cancer from them. Now this family is happily at home, more united than ever. And because of what she went through, Karrie-Ann is stronger than ever.
