NDC, NPP supporters clash in Suhum

On Monday, January 2, there were clashes between supporters of the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress in Suhum, which has led to several injuries.

Some of the injuries sustained by persons involved in the clashes were reportedly serious and life-threatening and have been rushed to the Suhum Government hospital.

The clashes started when a group of NPP supporters allegedly attacked supporters of the NDC.

A member of the NDC communication team in Suhum, Sammy Bankye was reportedly attacked in his residence, and was beaten badly. He is said to be receiving treatment at the Suhum government hospital.

Investigations into the clashes have been initiated by the Eastern Regional police command.

According to more reports, the clashes also escalated at the Suhum Government hospital where some of the injured had been rushed after the initial scuffles broke out.

These clashes between supporters of the major political parties had been ongoing since the 2016 general elections, and have resulted in numerous injuries as well as destruction of property.
