The Obengfo Hospital has been shut down by the Medical and Dental Council, with arrangements being made to evacuate patients currently undergoing treatments at the hospital.
Accompanied by a SWAT team, the administrative manager in charge of investigations at the Medical Council, Bright Atsu-Fuglo headed to the facility and put it under lock and key.
The plastic surgery section of the hospital based in Weija, drew the attention of the media in 2013, when several complaints of deformation by patients who had been treated at the Body Sculpting center led to investigations by Joy News.
One such patient came forward and disclosed that after paying GHC12,000 to have belly fat removed her tummy at the center, the surgery rather deformed her abdomen.
The Medical Council after conducting their own initial investigations into the series of complaints concluded that the head of the facility, Dr. Dominic Obeng Andoh was unqualified to perform plastic surgery at his facility.
Dr Obeng Andoh however, insists that he has adequate qualifications to perform the surgeries as he was trained in Florida, USA for two weeks and was awarded a certificate.
He stated that the lockdown was executed without a warrant.
"To think that the medical council came here without a court order, I find that very ridiculous; very inhumane," he said.
He has blamed the Registrar of the Medical Council, Dr. Eli Atikpui whom he claims has launched this scheme to shut down his business.
Dr. Obeng Andoh is adamant that he submitted the required certificates to the Medical Council but says they were rejected by the council.
