A high-level member of the New Patriotic Party has revealed that the 53.85% win for the president-elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, really surprised him.

Kwadwo Mpiani, a former Chief of Staff under the Kufuor-led administration, made this staggering revelation whiles speaking to the Accra-based radio station, Hot FM.
According to the NPP stalwart, he had little hopes that Nana Addo could pull such an amount of votes. "Surprisingly, I was shocked Nana Addo could poll such votes, I never dreamt about it".
In the December 7th elections, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo won the elections with 5,716,026 votes representing 53.85% by beating his closest contender, John Dramani Mahama who polled 4,713,277 votes representing 44.40% based on 271 out of 275 constituencies declared.

Nana Addo win with over 1 million votes, which represented almost 10% of total votes cast was also considered as a historic feat by many.
Kojo Mpiani, however indicated that, despite his shock he has called to congratulate the President –elect and urge him to appoint young and energetic people as ministers and do away with the aged because the youth need to tap experience from the old.
He also advised the NDC conduct an investigation to ascertain why the NDC lost the elections and take a cue from that so they may not fail Ghanaians. The lead of the NDC and outgoing president of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama is expected to hand over to Nana Addo on January 7th.
