Investigations have been launched by the Kibi Divisional Police Command into clashes between residents of Akyem Obuoho in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern region and some gunmen claiming to be members of the Okyenhene’s Environmental task-force.
The clashes led to seven people injured due to the gunshots being fired during the chaos and has left one person hospitalized.
Two vehicles belonging to the task force; a Toyota highlander and a taxi were set ablaze during the chaos.
The chief of Akyem Aworase is currently receiving treatment after being severely beaten and stripped half naked during the conflict which started during the Christmas season.
There are reports that the chief rounded up eight men who claimed to be members of the task force to raid a mining site new New Obuoho near Anum Apapam.
According to certain reports, the members of the task force started firing warning shots into the bushes after realizing that the miners had fled the site before their arrival. These armed men reportedly then attacked some farmers in the area which sparked clashes between the farmers and some members of the task force.
According to a Starr News report, the entire community then joined in the fights and attacked the chief of Aworasa, stripping him half naked and subjecting him to a beating.
The injured victims were rushed to the Suhum Government Hospital for treatment.
According to the Kibi Divisional Police Command crime officer, DSP Emmanuel Isaka, investigations have commenced into the issue and letter has been delivered to the Okyenhene's for comments on the issue.
He also stated that the four members of the task force and the chief were arrested but were released on bail so they could seek medical attention.
