Liberian President Ellen Sirleaf lavishes praise on Mahama

Liberian President, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, has lavished praise on Ghana for free and fair December 2016 general elections.

Liberian President Ellen Sirleaf lavishes praise on Mahama

Delivering a speech on behalf of ECOWAS at the inauguration of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Black Stars Square in Accra on Saturday, President Sirleaf praised Ghana's democratic credentials, saying the country had made Africa proud with it smooth transition of Ghana from one government to another.

She commended all Ghanaians, the Electoral Commission, and all political parties for a successful election.

She had special commendation for former President John Mahama for supervising the free and fair elections and facilitating a smooth transition of power.

"John, as you leave State House, please remember and cherish the fact that you have many roles to play in the future, in Ghana, Africa and the world. Thank you for demonstrating to all that indeed there is life after the pinnacle of power," she said.

President Sirleaf also praised President Nana Akufo-Addo for what she said was his commitment to the peace and tranquility of Ghana.

She expressed hope that Akufo-Addo would continue the actions which she said had made Ghana respected across the continent.

She said Akufo-Addo was taking office at a difficult time due to slow economic growth globally, but she expressed optimism that the "stubborn spirit of optimism and hope" that had brought him the presidency would continue to inspire the people of Ghana.
