Speaking to Joy News shortly have the inauguration ceremony, President J.A. Kufuor stressed that Ghanaians should take the newly sworn-in president's words seriously.

He expressed the view that President Akufo Addo's speech ought to have a galvanizing effect on Ghanaians, moving them to contribute their fair share in the work ahead towards the country's development.

"The event of greatest impact is the address of the President... well crafted, [and] so unifying of our country."

Yesterday, during his inaugural address, among other things President Akufo Addo pledged to protect the public purse, and asked the Ghanaian people to be active citizens and not spectators; words that invoked stiff criticism from his critics who said that the president plagiarized these sentences from US Presidents and did not credit them.
