President Nana Akufo-Addo has announced the appointment of Shirley Ayorkor Botwe as Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Akufo-Addo made the announcement during a visit from a Chinese delegation on his first day at work as president on Monday, January 9.
He introduced Ayorkor Botwe as ‘the one I’m wishing Parliament will approve as Foreign Minister.”
When approved by Parliament, Ayorkor Botwe will become the second woman ever to hold the position as the country’s topmost diplomat. The first was Hanna Tetteh of the erstwhile Mahama administration.
Who is Shirley Ayorkor Botwe?
The 54-year old has a Masters Degree in Public Communications from the University of Westminster and an MBA from the University of Ghana. She has previously served on various committees in Parliament including the Gender and Children committee.
