Former president Jerry John Rawlings is a very serious man, with good reason. His passion for development and attitudinal change in Ghana is nothing to be amused about.
Therefore, you will hardly see him smiling. Even when he does, it's so brief only a quick click of the camera can capture it.
For most of the times the retired flight lieutenant was captured smiling, it was around his family who have been his constant pillar of support and his biggest fans through out his entire career.
But there have been other times the former president has been captured smiling... or to put more accurately in some instances, almost cracking a smile.
Like this time when he was captured in the comfort of his home. One can't be sure if he was being indifferent or actually smiling. It's as if he was smiling with his eyes.
When Papa Jay, as he is affectionately called nowadays was younger and was a military leader, he was caught in a candid shot while talking to one of his comrades. This was a rare smile moment for the former soldier.
In this photo, it appears Papa Jay may have broken a smile during one of his interviews. He was still not a democratic president at this time.
However, a lot of smiles were seen on the face of Ghana's former president when he met the former president of the United States of America, Bill Clinton.
In instances such as the photo below, JJ Rawlings was seen smiling heartily in a friendly embrace with Clinton.
This was a definite smile, one we don't see often.
And also when these two former presidents shared a joke and laughed accordingly...
Sammy Kufuor also managed to get one smile for himself and for Ghanaians from the man who always means business.
And the last one, which is really good one, is a genuine smile for all of Ghana and the best that is yet to come.
