According to the Finder newspaper Members of Parliament and other article 71 office holders receive huge salaries and ex-gratia compared to what the average Ghanaian worker take home.

As at 2016, a Member of Parliament earns 19,430 cedis monthly, 17,791 cedis for the Speaker and 22,809 cedis for the President.

On the other hand the least paid public servant on the Single Spine Salary structure earns 207.90 cedis every month while the highest paid public servant earns 4,325.20 cedis.

The publication on the salary and ex-gratia for MPs say parliament in the just ended session (including those who were re-elected) are to take home 270,992 cedis as ex-gratia by each MP.

The Speaker of the House will also take home GHC 338, 740 as a retirement package.
