Kofi Adams, the 2016 campaign coordinator for the National Democratic Congress has said that should Mahama refuse to contest in the 2020 general elections, he would stage a demonstration.
Speaking to the Kasapa FM, Kofi Adams stated that the withdrawal of former President Mahama from the 2020 elections will be big blow to the NDC.
He noted that Mahama's prominence is unparalleled in the party, as he has the wealth of knowledge and experience in local politics.
"If such position is likely to cause the party’s future, is it not right that we demonstrate to save the party? I’m ready to demonstrate now," Mr Adams said.
There has been much debate over the former president's wish (or lack of) to stand in the 2020 presidential election.
While some notables in the party are still holding him to be the successor of the party, his immediate family have suggested that the president has most likely quit politics and would not contest in 2020.
Remarking further on the matter, Kofi Adams said, "You don’t need to be in NDC to know that in terms of stature President Mahama tops all. The only thing that can equal to that experience now is the Vice President, whom we an confidently say there is another former Vice President within our system, which is Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur. Apart from that most of them left in that pack, their experience is at the level of Speaker, minister, MP and etc."
