President Nana Akufo-Addo has elaborated his reasons for creating a new ministry, the Ministry of Monitoring and Evaluation.

In his address made on January 11th, 2017, the president pointed out that without the Monitoring and Evaluation Ministry, government projects may not be finished on time.
Speaking on the subject, President Akufo-Addo the new Ministry will "see to it that the target set by government in our manifesto as well as those set up in the budget are met and not just met but met on time”.
“The entire government machinery at all times is going to have somebody who is calling up and asking questions: ‘Why are there delays in this? Why are there delays in that?’”

According to President Akufo-Addo, the new Monitoring and Evaluation Ministry will be the weapon for insisting that government works be "efficient, effective, and timeous".
Announcing the new Minister for Monitoring and Evaluation, Dr Anthony Akoto Osei, President Akudo Addo expressed Dr. Akoto Osei, in his opinion, is the best man for the new sector. He also described him as being somebody who has extensive experience, and a renowned economist with a strong understanding for budgetary processes and targets.
“I believe he [Dr Anthony Akoto Osei] is the ideal man to fill this new role I’m talking about.” he said.
