The Member of Parliament for the Kumbumgu constituency, Ras Mubarak has described the directive issued by the Minister for Local Government designate, Hajia Alima Mahama on behalf of President Akufo-Addo, which has ordered all the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to vacate their posts, as illegal.
In a letter sent out yesterday, revoking all 216 appointments, it stated "By virtue of Article 243 (3)(b) of the constitution of the republic, H.E the president of the republic has revoked the appointment of all MMDCEs with immediate effect. In this regard all MMDCEs are directed to hand over their relevant duties to MMDCEs for further instruction.”
The announcement of the dismissal of the MMDCEs follows the pressure on the MMMDCEs appointed by the previous government to clear their desks, after Nana Addo's inauguration.
However, remarking on the matter, Ras Mubarak stated that it is illegal for minister designate who was yet to be vetted and approved by parliament to dismiss public officials.
He took to his Facebook wall, to criticize the decision of the new government, adding that they were 'beginning to make shambles of running the country.'
He wrote, "She [Alima Mahama] has no such powers and, as a lawyer, ought to have known that she can't act on behalf of the President until parliament vets and approves her nomination. They are beginning to make a total shambles of running the country."
