Zanetor had a broad smile on her face as she exchanged pleasantries with the former president.
It comes as the media reports a rift between Mahama and Zanetor's father, former President Jerry Rawlings, following a disastrous showing by the NDC in the December 2016 elections.
The president met with Minority Leader Haruna Idrissu and Deputy Minority Leader James Avedzi.
He also met with National Democratic Congress (NDC) general secretary, Asiedu Nketia, and other minority MPs, including Alfred Okoe Vanderpuye.
In a Facebook post, Mahama said he held frank discussions with the MPs in what he called a "great atmosphere".
Although he stated that the purpose of the meeting had been to "network", it could be the first major indication that he would want to lead the party in 2020.
