An accident involving a Toyota Hiace bus and Sprinter bus that occurred on Sunday night near Gomoa Akotsi on the Winneba-Kasoa highway has left one person dead and five others injured.
According to a report by Starr News, the Toyota Hiace bus was traveling from Gomoa Asebu to Awutu Akrampa, with footballers who had taken part in a match at Gomoa Akrampa, but the driver’s unsuccessful attempt to overtake two cars ahead of him resulted in a head-on collision with an oncoming Sprinter bus.
The accident killed one person instantly, when her head was severed, while 5 others sustained injuries and were rushed to the Trauma and Specialists Hospital in Winneba.
It took the combined efforts of the Awutu Bereku police and the Bududuram fire service over 30 minutes to find the severed head of the deceased.
According to the Awutu Bereku Police Commander, ASP Samuel Shadrack Amfoh the accident was caused by over speeding as well as the failure of the part of the drivers to observe traffic regulations.
He further stated that the driver of the Sprinter Bus who reportedly fled the scene after the accident is wanted by the police to help them in their investigations.
One survivor of the accident also noted that the accident could have been avoided if both drivers were not overspeeding.
