Central Regional chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Allotey Jacobs has revealed his admiration for Ashantis, saying their culture is “unique”.

The Ashanti kingdom is currently in a state on mourning after its Asantehemaa (Queen mother) Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II died last year.
The Queen mother was aged 111 years before passing away.
Several Ghanaians have sent heartfelt messages to the King of the Ashanti Kningdom, Otumfour Osei Tutu II and all Ashantis regarding the Asantehemaa’s demise.
Allotey says he has always admired the Ashanti culture, going further to say he wishes he was one of them.

He told Peace FM that the manner in which the Ashantis have organized the funeral of the late Queen mother makes one wish to be “an Ashanti and that “when you look at the unity, you see that the Asantehene is the epitome of Asante Kingdom or the Ashantis. When the King rises, thousands rise. This kingdom is blessed.”
Speaking of the cultural display at the funeral, Allotey said it was “so unique”, adding that, “I’ve come to respect Ashanti culture. When you look at it very well, it’s like the military setup. So unique, extraordinary; I am not surprised that Ashanti Kingdom goes as far as Cote D’Ivoire and so forth."

The late Asantehemaa will be buried on Thursday, January 19.
