Former President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama joined other dignitaries at the funeral rites of the the late queenmother of the Ashanti Kingdom, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II.
The Manhyia Palace, which is the seat of the King of the Ashanti Empire, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has been clad in white and red as people from across the nation and beyond gather for the final rites for the late Asantehemaa.

John Mahama, who recently lost presidency of Ghana to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo was also present at the grounds.
The late Asantehemaa was born in 1905 - four years after the War of the Golden Stool in 1900 which was led by the Ejisuhemaa Nana Yaa Asantewaa

The funeral, which will continue today Thursday when the Asantehemaa would be laid to rest in a secret location, has been a festival of breathtaking Ashanti culture and tradition.
