The streets of Kumasi are empty and dead quiet as final preparations are made to bury the late Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II.

Residents have been indoors since 7pm tonight as the body of the late Asantehemaa makes its way to the Bantama Mausoleum (Ban mu) and later to the Breman Mausoleum for burial.

All commercial activities in Kumasi were suspended for the day while schools were also closed.

The Asantehemaa was 111 years old.
