Ghanaians deceived by photos of "ghost" figure during Asantehemaa's funeral

There were wild rumours on Thursday night of a strange figure that had been spotted in Kumasi in Thursday night during the curfew imposed to facilitate the burial of Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II.

Photo: Strange figure spotted on Kumasi street during curfew

Social media users posted pictures of a figure clad in white overall and holding an unidentified object and claimed that the person had been spotted on the deserted streets of Kumasi during curfew hours imposed on residents for the burial of the late queenmother.

The pictures instantly went viral on social media, sparking rumours that it was a ghost.

Some social media users said the figure was one of the priests responsible for the burial of the late Asantehemaa which was ongoing at the time.

Others also speculated that the figure was a mentally unfit person who could not comply with the directive to stay indoors.

YEN can, however, confirm that the picture was not taken in Kumasi and that it had infact been circulating on the internet for years.

.Meanwhile the burial of the Asantehene was ongoing on Friday morning.

The body of the late Asantehemaa was taken to the Bantama Mausoleum (Ban mu) and later to the Breman Mausoleum for burial.
