Ghana has ushered in a new president under the leadership of NPP’s Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo.
The 2016 general elections, named as a knife-edged election entered into history as one of the most unprecedented elections in the history of Ghana’s 4th republic.
But despite President Mahama losing the elections in shock and disbelief, many refuse to understand that losing the elections could have come with some sense of relief to the outgoing NDC administration.
It’s important to note that President Mahama is not ALL that sad losing the general elections. In fact, he has nothing much to lose aside the fact that his party is in opposition.
President Mahama is leaving the Flagstaff House with a complete retirement package. This means that he would be retiring on his existing salary.
It’s no doubt that President Mahama was faced with one of the most severe public outrage with regards name calling and controversial allegations. Call it the price to pay in public service but President Mahama was one highly antagonized as “Dumsorhene”, “Commissioner General”… the list goes on and on.
We all heard the news when the former president was accused of having children out of wedlock and also securing a plush hotel in Dubai.
Even after losing the general election, former president Mahama has been hit hard by his main contenders from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for appointing public officials even when the transition of power was in progress.
So yes, John Mahama may have lost the general election in tears and shock but all may not seem lost for the former president. As the saying goes, so long as there’s life, there is hope and indeed, exiting the most dificult job of the land may indeed seem to be a huge relief to the president.
