Minister designate in charge of education, Mathew Opoku Prempeh has insisted that the English language will be maintained as the main medium of instruction across Ghana's educational sector.
Answering questions posed him b members of the appointments committee in parliament, the member of parliament for Manhyia South revealed that the use of the English Language is to ensure that students are "globally competitive".
“There is a language of business, trade, commerce…thank God with our colonial past we have it [English]. We are benefiting from English, we have to promote it,” he said.
The revelation made by the education minister designate follows the assurance by his predecessor, Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang that making local languages the main medium of instruction will boost academic excellence among students.
