Y.B Amponsah, a labour expert has advised employees in the public sector who were appointed after the December 2016 elections to expect their possible dismissal soon.
Speaking to Kasapa FM, he said, "There’s a payroll for every department and every institution in this country, so if I’m appointed as the new Minister and you’re not on the payroll till December the day of the election, and you appear on the payroll for January…then when were you engaged? You’re going to create a problem, the minister is likely to say that all those who were not on the payroll by a particular date, I’ll do away with their services…I can see that happening."
Mr Amponsah was remarking on the statement made by the Senior Minister designate, Yaw Osafo Maafo during his vetting, that the Akufo-Addo-led government will not hesitate to dismiss all public sector workers whose names were added to the government the payroll after December 2016.
This pronouncement followed numerous reports that the NDC government employed a number of persons into government agencies, after they lost the 2016 general elections.
Mr Amponsah further stated, "If they’ve been engaged long ago and they were just resuming for whatever reason, they’ll be time to rationalize. If names appear on the payroll after December we’ll definitely lay them off quietly.”
He added that since there were calls or ads of vacancy, there were interview sessions conducted and warrants were not secured before their employment- which breaches the law- their dismissal is imminent, and not far off.
He further asserted that once it is established that the persons' employment was flawed in law, they don’t qualify for any severance package.
